WATCH: Rare Megamouth Shark Found in Cagayan de Oro

A lifeless very rare megamouth shark was found dead off Barangay Bayabas in Cagayan de Oro City last weekend. Jojo Cabatuan the fisherman saw the shark on his net last Saturday.

"Kung iiwan naming sa dagat, mangangamoy lang din yan. Ngayon lang ako nakakita ng megamouth shark sa 38 years ko bilang mangingisda," Cabatuan said.

Megachasma pelagios known as megamouth shark  is an extremely rare species of deepwater shark that has rarely been seen or caught alive. It is "one of the most mysterious and least understood of all the sharks," according to wildlife conservation site ARKive.org.

The actual measure of Megamouth shark they found is 12 by two feet weighing 1 ton according to residents.
