Aside from the first ever Philippine micro-satellite, Department of Science and Technology (DOST) made another huge announcement this year that will surely thrill our netizens. Beginning on July 2015, Philippines will finally be a wifi-country.
The people, especially the techno-savvy regarded this project as a big leap in the technological and communication advancement of the country, especially because not all Filipinos are granted the privilege of free internet access.
According to a report in ABS-CBN News, the coverage of the project includes public places like:
1. PublicPlazas and Parks
2. Public Primary and Secondary Central Schools
3. Public Libraries
4. Rural Health Units and Government Hospitals
5. State Universities and Colleges
6. Train Stations of the MRT and LRT systems
7. Airports and Seaports
8. City and Municipal Halls
9. National Government Offices
Each public places will be allocated speed with the average of 256 kbps, the lowest speed in terms of ‘broadband’ which is only suitable for basic communication like the access to social media, but not enough for fast downloads.
However, DOST is still working on certain requirements needed to enjoy the free-wifi service and for the users to maximize the benefit of this project.

ReplyDeleteIm really happy and excited that finally we are connecting even better to the world of internet. However, if therefore DOST will really make this innovation come to reality in our country, I hope that it will designed and serviced to its best wireless fidelity(wifi). What's the point when thousands of users will "compete" for the allocation of a minimum speed of 250 kbps just to access the internet? It just wont work fine. I really hope it will be more than 250kbps so that the innovation will not be wasted and will be beneficial to all especially the users who really need it.
ReplyDeleteLalo dadami ang accident, tsktsk.
