Mystery continues to surface as to the whereabouts of the Air Asia's Flight QZ8501. Carrying 162 people on board, the plane lost contact with the ground control last Sunday while flying over the Java Sea after taking off from a provincial city in Indonesia going to Singapore. The two countries quickly started a search and rescue operation but there was no word from the plane even after six hours that it went missing.
AirAsia is a low-cost carrier in several Southeast Asian countries. It said in a statement that the missing Airbus A320-200 was on the submitted flight plan route but it requested deviation due to weather before communication was totally lost while it was still under the control of the Indonesian Air Traffic Control.
The contact to the plane was lost after 42 minutes it took off from Indonesia's Surabaya airport according to Hadi Mustofa, an official of the transportation ministry told Indonesia's MetroTV and that it was about an hour before it was scheduled to land in Singapore.
The plane carries two pilots, five cabin crew and 155 passengers, including 16 children and one infant according to the statement of AirAsia. Included in the passengers are six foreigners — three South Koreans and one each from Singapore, Malaysia and France and the rest were Indonesians.
Additionally, it said that the captain in command had a total of 6,100 flying hours, a substantial number, and the first officer a total of 2,275 flying hours. The pilot requested a change in altitude.
Meanwhile, at Surabaya airport, a lot of relatives sat in a room, talking on mobile phones and crying while some looked stunned.
According to Flightradar24, a flight tracking website, the said plane was delivered in September 2008, which would make it six years old by now.

According to Indonesia's acting director general of transportation, Mr. Djoko Murjatmodjo, they don't dare to presume on what has happened to the plane except that it has lost contact. He added that the last contact between pilot and the air traffic control was at 6.13 a.m because he asked to hinder cloud by turning left and go higher to 34,000 feet.
