WATCH: Medusa The Two Headed Milk snake Eats a Meal

How many of us believe in the existence of two headed snakes? Well, as with any living creature, they do exist and are a much more common sight than any other two headed animals.

Two-headed snakes are rare but not unheard of, and one recently found in Spain is giving scientists an opportunity to study how the anomaly affects their ability to hunt and mate. 

"We hear of one every several years," said Gordon Burghardt, a herpetologist at the University of Tennessee who has studied several two-headed snakes.

Medusa is an Albino Honduran Milk Snake who exhibits axial bifurcation: she has two heads who have independent thoughts and are each able to control the length of the shared body. This is caused by an incomplete splitting of monozygotic twins. Wild bicephalic snakes don’t usually live very long, but they can do just fine in captivity as long as they are properly cared for.
