The island nation has an estimated 350 billion coconut trees which yield about 15 billion nets per year.
This has given the Philippines the title of the second biggest coconut exporter in the world.
And exports may increase even more. With beverage companies turning towards healthier options, coconuts have become all the rage among health nuts. While agriculture and business experts say the Philippine coconut export business has a huge potential, there are logistical problems that have held the farmers back --poor roads and world towns and a lack of processing centers have slowed business development. Also coconut trees are regularly damaged by severe typhoons.”
