11 Filipinos Included In The List Of Richest Persons In The World

“Who’s the richest person in the world?“ is probably one of the most asked question ever because most of the people wanted to be rich! (Come on, who wouldn’t want to be?)

And knowing what’s the answer to this question will probably left one person thinking on how he or she would be able to do that in the future as well.

An American business magazine Forbes is doing an annual ranking of the world’s wealthiest people around the world called World’s Billionaires since March of 1987 and this year, 11 Filipinos made it to the billionaires list and here they are…

Still the undisputed richest Filipino of today is SM Group of Companies’ Henry Sy who placed 73rd with a net worth of $14.2 billion.

According to Forbes, “his net worth has increased by 10 digits plus thanks to the continued growth of his SM Investments Corp., the largest retailer in the Philippines with over 200 individual outlets around the country. The firm is one of the country’s largest conglomerates with interests in real estate development, shopping malls, and banking.”

Next is John Gokongwei Jr. who is the second richest Filipino, being the founder of JG Summit Holdings and placed as the 254th richest in the world whose net worth is $5.8 billion. His businesses are in the fields of airlines, telecoms, property development, banking, hotels, and power.

The chairman and chief executive of the largest port operator in the Philippines, International Container Terminal Services, Enrique Razon Jr. follows Gokongwei who ranks 291st having a net worth of $5.2 billion.

Following him was Andrew Tan of Megaworld whose net worth is $4.8 billion. Aside from Megaworld, he’s also behind Emperador Distillers and Resorts World Manila which made him ranked 330th in the world.

The fifth richest billionaire in the Philippines and the 369th in the world was LT Group’s Lucio Tan whose net worth is $4.4 billlion. He’s the man behind Asia Brewery and also has a stake in Philip Morris-Fortune Tobacco which has an estimated 80% market share in Philippines’ cigarette market.

6. George Ty of GT Capital ($4.4 billion; 369th)
7. David Consunji of DMCI ($4.1 billion; 405th)
8. Tony Tan Caktiong of Jollibee ($2.7 billion; 690th)
9. Lucio and Susan Co of Puregold ($2.3 billion; 810th)
10. Robert Coyiuto of Prudential ($1.8 billion; 1054th); and 
11. Manny Villar of Vistaland ($1.6 billion; 1190th)

Their total net worth on the list provided are estimated, in US dollars and are based on their assets and accounting for debt.
