A week have
passed since the tragic misencounter that threatened to destroy the on-going
peace talk between the government and the MILF but there are still many
questions left unanswered.
The encounter
killed 44 men from PNP Special Action Force and many more from the Special
Action Company. Due to this disturbing encounter, a National Day for Mourning
was held to honour and commemorate the deaths of the police.

This issue has
already been addressed by President Benigno Aquino in his nationwide speech for
the masses aired last January 27. However, most of the vital things about the
case were left untouched. According to PNoy, the appointed Board of Inquiry
members will dig down the case to figure out what actually happened.
The Filipinos
have not been satisfied with the president’s address, and even the media was
also paralysed in reporting the true elements of the incidents because the
government failed to communicate effectively with its people.
Days have passed
and the events of the encounter slowly unravel. In this detailed news report
from ABS-CBN News, the events were carefully scrutinized and explained for the
public to understand the incidents.
The PNP SAF
entered the premises of the MILF at about 2:30 AM in a small barangay in
Mamasapano. First to enter is the 84th SAC assault force that was
ordered to kill terrorist Marwan and get a sample of his DNA. They are followed
by the 55th SAC members that stayed beside a cornfield and will
serve as a back-up force for the first troop.
After
successfully killing Marwan at about 4:30 in the morning, the assault force was
blocked by the MILF which signalled the start of the deadly encounter. The back-up
force troops in the cornfield were also engaged in an attack with the MILF.
The rest of the
clip tells the preceding events and how the other troops were sent for rescue
to the several injured policemen. Several AFP tanks were also deployed but
failed to fire their cannons because the members were unsure of the exact
location.
