WATCH: Philippines Is The Second Biggest Coconut Exporter In The World, As Reported By NewsBeat Social!

Being the second biggest coconut exporter in the world, it is no wonder that the Philippines is featured in BBC’s NewsBeat.
According to the report, some problems such as poor roads and lack of processing centers are barriers to the export business of the coconuts despite of the fact that it earns 15 billion per year.
Below is the complete excerpt from the report:
“As coconut products continue to grow in popularity around the world, so too does the business potential for the coconut farmers.
Coconut water known locally as buko juice is sold across the country from city alley ways to whole top towns.
The island nation has an estimated 350 billion coconut trees which yield about 15 billion nets per year.
This has given the Philippines the title of the second biggest coconut exporter in the world.
And exports may increase even more. With beverage companies turning towards healthier options, coconuts have become all the rage among health nuts. While agriculture and business experts say the Philippine coconut export business has a huge potential, there are logistical problems that have held the farmers back --poor roads and world towns and a lack of processing centers have slowed business development. Also coconut trees are regularly damaged by severe typhoons.”
